August 2009 Events

(8/1, Sat) - Ewauna Rowing Club - Ewauna Rowing Club will host a Learn to Row session at the boathouse in Veteran's Park.  The session will start at 9:00 A.M. and run until about noon.  This is a free event.  Participants should be 12 years or older and know how to swim, children under the age of 18 will need parental consent.  Wear comfortable "workout" clothing, but no baggy shorts or long shirt-tails.  Bring water and sunscreen. (8/1, Sat) - Casa Ride Through Paradise - One of the Northwest's premier cycling events, featuring four courses, which are 10, 25, 62, and 100 miles long and travel through picturesque Klamath County. Well-supported rest stops and well-marked courses will accommodate all levels of cyclists including beginners, families and more experienced riders. 18 miles North of California border via Hwy 97. 2007 Cyclist says "This is the best kept secret in Southern Oregon." All proceeds benefit CASA for Children of Klamath County, a non-profit program that trains volunteers to advocate for foster children. (8/1, Sat) - Free Rowing Sessions - The Klamath Falls Rowing Club offers free rowing sessions at Veteran’s Park once a month (except July when the Henley Regatta takes place) during the summer. Sessions run from 9 A.M. to 12:30-ish P.M. The dates this year are May 16, June 13, August 1 and September 26.
 
(8/1, Sat) - Bike Rodeo, Race and Family Festival - Mazama High School is a fun event for the entire family that includes a bike rodeo, bike races, kids activities, face painting, water balloons, rock wall, children's bounce house, barbecue popcorn, snow cones and live music.  $5 general admission includes barbecue lunch. Family Discount available. All proceeds benefit CASA for Children of Klamath County, a non-profit program that trains child advocates for foster children.
 
(8/1-10/10, Thu-Sun) - Farmers Market - Farmers Market every Saturday in downtown Klamath Falls.
 
(8/1-8/2, Sat-Sun) - The Music Man - A much-loved community production of "The Music Man" officially opened the newly-renovated Ross Ragland Theater in the spring of 1989. It returns to the theater in a gala community production that will celebrate the 20th Anniversary Season of the Ragland. Nostalgia, comedy and romance... this production has it all! You'll thrill to this tuneful tribute to the brass band and small-town America. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 P.M., Sunday afternoon at 2 P.M. Tickets are $16, $18 and $20. (8/6-8/9, Thu-Sun) - Klamath County Fair & Carnival - The Klamath County Fair & Carnival is an annual favorite among the locals here in Klamath County. (8/7-8/8, Fri-Sat) - Great Northwest PRCA Rodeouchanan Bull Sale - Klamath County Fairgrounds. Bring the whole family to enjoy cowboys, bulls, horses, hats, wranglers, and all the fun that comes along with a rodeo. Food and merchandise also available for purchase. (8/8, Sat) - Crater Lake Rim Run - 34th Annual Crater Lake Rim Run: Come enjoy the challenge! Choose between a 6.7-mile run or walk, 13-mile run, or a 26-mile full marathon run. The race begins at 7:30 A.M. and will take you through the beautiful scenery of Crater Lake National Park. It is limited to a total of 500 participants on a first come, first serve basis, so register ASAP! (8/9-8/11, Sun-Tues) - Balch Hotel to Hood River to Balch Hotel - Sunday night arrive at the historic Balch Hotel in Dufur, Oregon. Monday ride to Hood River on a lovely route through farm land with Mt. Hood looming ever closer and a fun downhill run to spend the night on the Columbia River. Tuesday ride the Historic Columbia River Highway through the twin tunnels, down the Gorge enjoying waterfalls and river views stopping in The Dalles for lunch before continuing back to The Balch Hotel for another night of relaxation and a delicious catered dinner. Your ride will have van support and your luggage will be waiting for you at each stop. (8/15-8/16, Sat-Sun) - National Parks Fee Free Weekend - Fee free weekend at National Parks this summer is August 15-16. The National Park Service wants to reinforce that our national parks are places for everyone to have fun, reconnect with nature and history, and build a sense of ownership and stewardship towards parks and the environment. Free entry passes for entrance fees are good on Saturday and Sunday only.

(8/15, Sat) - Crater Lake Century Ride - Crater Lake Century Ride includes the Century Ride (100 miles) and the Metric Century Ride (62 miles). Century riders will climb more than 7,000 ft. while enjoying the breathtaking views from Rim Drive around the Crater Lake Caldera. 541.594.2211.
 
(8/16-8/18, Sun-Tues) - Imperial River Company Bike & Raft Trip - The Imperial River Co in Maupin, Oregon on the banks of the Deschutes River. Go for a charming, level 12 mile ride up river and have the rest of your evening for volleyball or just watching the river go by. Monday morning ride a 26 mile loop with 1600’ of climbing along the Deschutes River and across rolling farmland towards Tygh Valley stopping at White River State Park to admire the waterfall. Climb out of Tygh Valley and arrive back at The Imperial for an exciting afternoon of white water rafting on the Deschutes River.
